China recalls its Nepal ambassador for Tibet failure (TibetanReview.net, Mar28, 2011) China has recalled its ambassador to Nepal, Mr Qiu Guohong, due to his alleged failure to prevent Tibetan protests in the country, according to thehimalayantimes.com (Nepal) Mar 27. The report cited sources as saying China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs was dissatisfied with what was seen as Qiu's weak diplomacy to neutralise any anti-Chinese activities in Nepal. The report claimed that activities, including allegedly violent protests of the Free-Tibet Movement, "which is Beijing's utmost concern in Nepal", had been occurring in the country since Qiu's arrival in Nepal in late 2008. Qiu was reported to have conveyed the news of his recall to Nepal's Foreign Secretary Dr Madan Kumar Bhattarai on Mar 25. Qui had still eight months to go before the expiry of his normal three-year tenure. The report said he was expected to return to Beijing within two weeks.
